Carriage Houses Yes, Barndominiums No<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Social media is a blessing and a curse. Overall, more a blessing for Yankee Barn but, there is one area where we have a bone to pick with the sharing of all things barn – Barndominiums. As near as we at YBH can determine, barndominiums are large metal barn-style structures that have workspace\/garage storage on the first floor and living\/office space on the second level (or side-by-side living\/storage). The operative word (again, to our understanding) is metal. Barndominiums are built using steel frames and metal siding. Yankee Barn Homes builds post and beam, partial post and beam, and fully panelized homes. We do not build steel structures or use metal siding.<\/p>\n

As social media platforms became popular and photos went viral, the Texas-based metal barns with adjoining living space known as Barndominiums<\/em>\u00a0flew around social media like a house-a-fire! They were touted as inexpensive metal structures where one could combine a work space with a living structure, AND, they were said to be inexpensive. WOO HOO! Who wouldn’t want one of those? BTW – steel is not inexpensive, but that’s a topic for another time.<\/p>\n

Yankee Barn Homes is a company that specializes in building custom-designed timber frame and panelized homes. We do not use steel frames or metal siding, we only incorporate steel when engineering requires it. We do build gorgeous carriage houses, many based on the historical carriage barns found throughout New England. More on those in a minute.<\/p>\n
