Mont Vernon Post and Beam Addition<\/h3>\n

Within the rolling hills of New Hampshire lies an exceptional, newly remodeled home called Mont Vernon, located on the edge of the Winnipesauke Lake District. The home sits on several acres of highly sought-after real estate due to its proximity to the surrounding lakes. The neighborhood is decidedly rural and displays a combination of New England Cape and Victorian era homes.<\/p>\n

Originally built in the early 1800\u2019s, Mont Vernon began with a total of approximately 1,800 square feet. Ultimately, 3,035 square feet of post and beam construction was added to the home making it a total of 4835 square feet. Not only did the family need more space added to the original cape style home, but necessary updates required gutting to the studs, new wiring and re-plumbing. The challenge was to convert the cramped 1800\u2019s cape into an inviting place and adding a large addition, while respecting the original building from inside and out.<\/p>\n

The post and beam addition exterior was designed in a true barn style, meant to blend with the surrounding rural neighborhood. The owners are horse lovers and wanted the interior of their home to reflect their horse-loving lifestyle. Their original ideas for the addition came from their horse barn. Even the copper piping seen in the horse barn has been incorporated into the stair railing of the addition.<\/p>\n

The new breakfast room is the transition space from old to new. When looking at this room, it\u2019s hard to tell where old post and beam meets new \u2013 just the way the homeowners wanted it to appear. The addition contains the new kitchen, media room\/play room, a large vaulted ceiling great room, two bedrooms and a bath.<\/p>\n
