[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Post and beam frame type may not be one of those \u201csexy\u201d subjects filled with glamorous house photos, but it is an extremely important subject when considering building a timber frame home.<\/p>\n

There are two major types of the post and beam frame built at Yankee Barn Homes; the \u201cA\u201d Frame and the King Post Truss. The A Frame forms the shape of an A (has supporting posts) and is used for moderate to large loft spaces. The King Post Truss is employed when a vast open loft space (without posts) is required. You\u2019ll notice a middle post in the top of the “A” portion of the truss.<\/p>\n

One should not interpret this to mean the A Frame is not used for larger homes with expansive loft spaces. At Yankee Barn Homes we tend to use the A Frame more often than the King Post Truss for a number of design reasons, primarily due to client preference and structural requirements. However, both are being built at YBH on a regular basis.<\/p>\n

If you look at the history of post and beam frames<\/a>, you\u2019ll notice most of the varied frame styles originate from either the A or King Post structure. In other words, just because there are only two major categories of frame type one should not think this limits design possibilities.
